Whirlpool Refrigerator too cold appliancerepair

We bought a whirlpool refrigerator for our kitchen remodel at a discount/refurbish store. It sat unused in another room for several months while we finished the remodel (past the return date I will add). When we plugged it in, the freezer is exactly the temp its set to but the refrigerator side was too cold, the same temperature as the freezer. First diagnosis from a repair man was to change the control board. Instead we went with trying to replace cheaper thermistor. That didn't change so we replaced both the control board behind the ice machine and the main control board in the back of the machine. No change either. Finally, we replaced the damper. When it was removed it was clearly broken open. Now the temperature has risen to 0 degrees celcius and we can't get it to go any higher. What is going on? Our crappy repair man, who said the damper was fine, said that a bad damper can in reverse ruin a control board. Is this true? What do we do? We are losing our minds!
