The fridge in my apartment is absurdly loud and I can't take it anymore. Not only does the appliance run non-stop, resulting in high electricity bills, but the evaporator fan motor is LOUD.
I had my landlord come in to look at it and he fiddled around in there and he said everything's running good, it`s just an old fridge. He said he fixed the timer, but it still runs non-stop. He said it should only run for 6.5 hours a day, but it seems to be running 24/7. It stops for maybe 10 minutes a couple times a day, then goes right back on.
This fridge is from about the 80s I would guess and needs to be replaced. I begged by landlord to get me a new fridge or at least take this one out of my apartment and I`ll get a better one on craigslist, but he refuses. "This is a great fridge! They don't make them like this anymore!" he says. I'd like to see him live in a tiny apartment with this noisy monstrosity.
Anyways, it seems this would be an easy fix - replace the evaporator fan motor - problem is, the fridge is so old I can't find a suitable replacement online. Is there anything at all I can do to quiet this thing down, even just a little bit????? It's driving me bonkers. Does anyone know of an online source for older refrigerator parts? Thanks.
