Not sure if this goes here, so I'm sorry if it's the wrong place. First question posed on Reddit.
I live in a 3 br/1 ba apartment in Brooklyn with two other roommates. We moved from Hamilton Heights in Manhattan last July and were previously spending a maximum of $300 for power (during those sweltering July and August months when the AC is on almost always).
We just got a bill for nearly $1000 for power. We're almost 100% sure this is impossible as it seem it would require us all to be there all day every day, while never turning off any electronics. What could be causing this surge in power "usage"? A faulty refrigerator or something perhaps?
Con Ed is no help. Property management doesn't seem to be any help. Do I just need to hire an electrician to come check the power usage? Is there any recourse I can take? Any advice? I'll answer any questions.
