Greetings all! I've had this idea in my head every time I take a shower or stare out the window of our work truck: I want to be a volunteer. Months ago I saw a video about a guy that literally spends his entire life making sandwiches and giving them out to the homeless, storing the bread and the meat in his 'house' (which is just a bunch of refrigerators) and that made my heart melt. For much of my life I was so selfish and a few years ago I started focusing on other people and it's the greatest feeling in the world. I don't want to live for myself anymore and REALLY want to volunteer indefinitely.
I didn't realize there were 'volunteering expenses' (a bit of an oxymoron if you ask me!) so I figured I'd start a crowdsourcing page (I won't post it here unless that's allowed!) and save my tax returns and all my money so I can do this. So while paying for this endeavor is going to be a challenge I know through my hard work and the support of others I'll be able to find a way to afford it someway or another...but now that I've done my research I've gotten worried. I don't want to give this hard earned and donated money to a scandalous organization! I am willing to work 80+ hours a week so long as I have a bed to read my bible and a meal or two a day to keep me nourish. Other than that I don't really care what I do or if I have internet access. I'd love to help endangered animals but if that's not a likely scenario I'll build wells or houses or schools or whatever it takes! I just want to help!
I've found this: http://ift.tt/1R7R4j2
and it REALLY hit home with me and the cost for 12 weeks seems more than reasonable. Can I trust this 'GoEco' organization? Can people point me in the right direction? I don't know anything about volunteering or Visas or really any of this. I kind of had this idea in my head that I'd just sign up somewhere and in a few weeks they'd allocate me a plane ticket and I'd be on my way healing the world but I guess it's a lot more complicated than that!
Thanks!
