Hello,
I'm planning on getting a portable electric generator for my home because we get a lot of power outages. I've been acquiring the information of my appliances in order to know which generator to buy. The thing is I'm insecure about the way I'm calculating wattages. The popular formula of wattage = volts * amps seems to be only for DC and my house, as it's commonly the case, is wired for AC.
My question(s) is (are): Does that mean that I should look for another formula? I don't know much about electricity but I read most houses supply AC. I know stuff like cellphones and laptops convert that AC to DC but is it the same with refrigerators and freezers?
Main point is, how do I properly calculate wattage? Should I be aware of the appliance's type of current?
Really any help will be appreciated.
