I made chicken breasts recently, and two of the pieces came out with a texture somewhere between rubber and a sponge. Why, God, why? AskCulinary

Right, so I did the same thing I always do: take out of package, defrost in refrigerator for a few hours, pan-sear, chuck in oven, pour sauce over delicious end product. This always tastes delicious.

And then THIS happened. I did nothing different, and in fact most of the pieces were fine, but two of the five had this horrible texture. Did it go bad somehow? (And if so, why only those two pieces?) Was there something wrong with the actual meat? Can I do anything about it, or should I give up and go vegan so I won't experience this horror again?
