My buddy has a new (to him) house that was built in the 1940s. I was replacing some receptacles that were painted over, and I noticed that almost the entire first floor is on one circuit. The bathroom GFI, refrigerator, downstairs bedroom and living room are all on one single 20 amp circuit. The exhaust fan and light fixture in the bathroom are on another, separate 15 amp circuit with nothing else.
Was this ever code? Having that much on one 20 amp circuit seems like way too much.
