I'm not sure how many times I've done it, but I often seem to forget that I have laundry in the washing machine. This is particularly hilarious because in my apartment, the washing machine is in the kitchen, not hidden at all, completely out in the open. There is no way I could get it on my way to the refrigerator looking for something to eat and finding nothing because I haven't gone shopping yet while not doing the dishes.
So I put a magnet on the lid of the washing machine when there are clothes in it. It nags me that there are clothes in the washer that I need to move. They have them for dishwashers, I guess. But I just have a big honking magnet that sticks out like a sore... um... thumb. YMMV.
