Found this gem of one while apartment hunting. I dont think I'll partake of this location...
I lived here from Jan 8 to Dec 15, 2005 as part of Student Housing thru the Art Institute of Dallas.
1 Bdrm unit smaller than unit I was showed in Nov. Claim they were told by AI Housing Director (AIHD) to show the larger 1 Bdrm even though not everyone gets it. AIHD then turns around & denies this
Apartment was not cleaned or inspected prior to my arrival. a. Knee high pile of trash (including molded cups, food, eggs) in patio storage unit. b. Heater didn't work. Called for 4 days before complex came to fix it. d. Flower pot full of cigarette butts & Christmas lights, Refrigerator & pantry full of food left from previous resident. e. Numerous carpet stains & stuff stuck in the carpet.
Maintenance came in to replace patio light & left sliding glass WIDE door open while I wasn't home. Sliding glass door didn't lock for at least three weeks. Maintenance also walked into my apartment while I was in the shower.
Had to spend over $200 to have out of date washer/dryer electrical connections fixed.
Bathroom sink leaked for 11 mo. Water leak in linen closet... told it was from my washing machine, no where near said closet.
Electrical boxes not labeled for TXU. TXU therefore turned off my electricity instead of neighbors. I called the receptionist, office, RA, & AIHD. No response until my mother called the President of The Art Institute. Did not have electricity for over 5 hours & was late to class & homework was unable to be completed.
Indoor electrical problems; apartments suffer from random electricity outages for no reason.
AIHD called & claimed he was going to charge my account for excessive electricity bills. Thermostat still not working after living here for 3 mo; heat to 90 F or chill to 50 F because the thermostat would not cut off, not fixed until April. Common sense; one person in 648 sq ft could not possibly run up $300+ electricity bills if everything was working correctly.
Oven never fixed; Baking anything over 350 F caused the smoke alarm to go off. Smoke Alarm also went off when drying clothes
Office signed for packages without notifying tenant. Signing means they take responsibility for getting the packages to the tenant. They claim we should know when we are going to have something delivered, which is ridiculous. I had a present from my Nana held hostage for over 3 mo. because I didn't know it was there. They legally do not have the right to sign for packages that are addressed to YOU without your written consent.
Office keeps sporadic hours & is never there when I can pick up hostage packages. When you do arrive to pick up packages, they can not find them. Two packages were completely lost. Office closes without notice, yet they can serve notice to residents about "drunken parties" at Pubs.
Office routinely does not allow FedEx, UPS, DHL & other courier services in the gate so that those couriers are able to leave notice on our door.
Office calls AIHD every time a student goes into the office for anything.
Office demanded I remove patio furniture not visible from parking lot & remove my "dead plants" from patio, they were not dead, were herbs.
Office refused to send monthly statements for alarm system. By law, I do not have to pay for a bill that I have not received a statement for.
I come home to no parking spaces available. The lease said they would tow cars without parking permits, but they do not... but told me to call a tow truck when I was changing a flat tire. Security Access Gates never worked.
Upstairs neighbors (also students) were lighting fireworks inside their apartment & throwing them out the windows at our cars. The gun powder smell would infiltrate into my apartment.
Sept 1, 05 Intruder shot security guard. Security Guard killed intruder. The next week, office disarmed the security officers.
Oct 16, 05. Body pulled out of unit - had been dead for over a week from heroine overdose. No one knew until she started smelling, although there were newspapers & notes & stuff piled up at her front door. Apparently the people she was with when she took the heroine are also residents who sat there & watched her die, took her key, locked the front door & left & didn't tell anybody.
Oct 31, 05. Neighbor had LSD slipped into drink at Halloween Party in Club House.
Drug deals are rampant & visible & complex is home to many drug dealers. Not safe for students. Units inspected for alcohol; regardless of age... but smell of marijuana overlooked.
Maintenance entered my apartment, set off my alarm & Office did not answer when Network Multifamily called to check. Network Multifamily sent Dallas PD to my unit & I returned home to three bright orange "False Alarm Notice" stickers on my door. After three stickers, DPD starts sending you bills for fines. Office still hasn't paid these fines.
When I called Office Staff to have them come remove the stickers from my front door, they just painted over them.
