Musings and Thoughts on a Compulsive Eater fatpeoplestories

A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to find myself working in an adult family home for people with disabilities. Intellectual, behavioral, and developmental disabilities. The four men I worked with were a real blessing in my life, if a bit violent at times.

One of the guys was particularly interesting. He was abused (starved, among other things) as a young child and functions cognitively and socially at the rate of a 4-year-old. He speaks his own gobbledy-gook language that takes anyone new about 4 months to understand, he experiences flashbacks and hallucinations regularly, and he really enjoyed screaming obscenities at us.

He had his good moments, too, but those aren't the focus of these expressions.

As a result of his being starved for a great deal of his childhood, he is now a compulsive eater. The refrigerator, freezer, and all pantry cabinets have locks on them because if they remained easily accessible, he would eat until he puked. And then he would continue to eat.

When my company took him in, he weighed an excess of 400 lbs. He would never have made it to 35, given his obesity and other ailments.

Today, at age 46, he is down to 255. Still hammy, given he is only 5'9". Workers inevitably leave food out or forget to lock something up. Shame on them.

A man who will literally eat every food item in sight has lost more than 150 pounds, lurkers. He lacks any form of self-control, but he has an amazing support system. You may not have the kind of support he did, but you are also mentally older than 4.

Still, you can't be bothered to stomach vegetables.
