For reference, as of July 30th 2015, my roommate and I moved out of our 2 bedroom apartment in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over the course of two years, we had a very bad relationship with our landlord (e.g., wouldn't fix the heat in the winter, trying to make us pay for electrical problems). We finally got the city department of Licenses and Inspections involved and the landlord was forced to repair many issues in the apartment.
Today, August 24th 2015, we received a letter in the mail. They gave us back $1250 of $1650. They withheld:
-6 holes on wall: $60
-mismatch color on wall: $100
-Refrigerator shelf broken: $75
-Philadelphia Trash and Recyclable Removal Fee: $150
The refrigerator door shelf was broken before moving in (I have no proof). The six holes in the wall were from nails/thumb tacks. The mismatch color she is referring to is from where the furniture scuffed the wall. We took a paint chip to Home Depot and got it matched the best they could, just to be good tenants. I was under the impression regular wear-and-tear is the responsibility of the landlord. Am I being unreasonable or should we get more of our security deposit back?
Any advice is helpful. Thank you!
