My estranged husband was traveling through UT (he's a CA resident) when he was arrested for possession of marijuana. He was not driving at the time but the arrest seems to have been treated as a moving violation, he did a trial by telephone to settle the matter, and never asked why it was a DMV issue. His driving privileges in UT were suspended for six months (that ended last November) and he paid a fine. Now his motorcycle insurance carrier has cancelled his policy because of the suspension. He's a compulsively secretive person (I only found out about the arrest because a lawyer in UT sent him a solicitation that he opened and then left sitting on top of the refrigerator!) so I have few details but I'm supposed to find out why it's a DMV matter rather than criminal and find out what needs to be done to remove the conviction from his DMV record. I've called the court that handled the trial and they referred me to UT DMV, who won't give me any info. If anyone has any experience with this kind of thing, please help! Thanks!!
