It was grocery day.
Norman sat and composed a neatly written list of essentials for the week- Bran cereal, some microwave meals, a 1/2 gallon of 1% milk, cat food for Norman, toothpaste, dental floss, and so on. He carefully folded the list, put it in his shirt pocket, and left for the store.
Arriving at the market, Norman found a shopping cart and began exploring the aisles. The store wasn't too crowded, so he was able to pick up many of the items on his list much quicker than usual. At the dental care aisle, Norman was disappointed to see that his usual brand of toothpaste was sold out. This posed a problem, as Norman only had enough toothpaste at home for (maybe) 2 or 3 brushings.
Breathing a heavy sigh, Norman looked over the other options on the toothpaste shelf. Should he get one with paste? Gel? A brand with the power of baking soda? It was all so overwhelming! Finally, he chose a a brand that promised "enamel protection in a minty-fresh gel". "I'll be the judge of that", Norman thought to himself as he put the toothpaste in his cart and headed to the checkout.
Norman arrived home with his purchases and began unloading the bags, taking care to put away the freezer and refrigerator items first. After putting up the pantry items, he picked up the dental floss and the new-to-him toothpaste and took them to the restroom. He looked at the toothpaste tube and began to wonder if he had made a mistake.
Norman knew that there was only one way to find out. He opened the box and removed the cap, putting his normal amount on his toothbrush. "Well, here goes nothing", he said to Norman who was watching from the doorway. He wet the toothpaste and began to brush. To Norman's surprise, the toothpaste felt refreshing! More than that, his teeth felt much cleaner than his usual paste had.
After he finished, Norman gargled and rinsed, then inhaled and exhaled through his mouth. "How about that? Minty fresh!", he said. He briefly thought about making this his new brand of toothpaste, but then a twinge of guilt struck him. He had been using his regular toothpaste for many years, and it wouldn't be fair to switch now. He decided to buy his usual brand as soon as he could, and use the rest of this new toothpaste on special occasions- that would be the right thing to do.
