The best place to defrost a frozen turkey is in the refrigerator, in a bowl. You'll need 24 hours of defrosting time for every 4-5 pounds of bird. Here's a link from FoodSafety.gov with a handy chart.
Don't end up on Thanksgiving with a frozen turkey and unhappy guests! Also - a tip from personal experience - don't forget take OUT that weird bag stuffed into the body cavity; it has the neck and giblets.
