Refrigerator Glitch Glitch_in_the_Matrix

This happened to my roommates and I when we were living in our first off-campus apartment together in our junior year of college. One of my roommates had just come home from work, and we were chatting in our kitchen. As my roommate got something from the fridge, she fumbled, knocking a few things out and even detaching the front piece of the lowest shelf on the door of the fridge, which had happened on occasion before. We took a few minutes to laugh and joke about her clumsiness, and began to pick up.

What really got us was that we couldn't find the piece of the fridge door. The piece itself was fairly large, probably a little over two feet long and a few inches wide, and our kitchen was tiny. The pace was maybe ten feet across in each direction, and fully enclosed on three sides. We searched the entire kitchen, between the fridge and the cabinets, underneath all the cabinets and appliances; we even searched the equally small adjoining dining room. Figuring it would turn up at some point in the coming days, we eventually gave up.

Many months later when we were moving out, I did the final sweep before we turned in the keys. I checked every inch of that kitchen, even inside the fridge itself, and we still never found that missing piece of the fridge.
