We have an unsolvable problem with a family member. It's my aunt who is unmarried and lives with her mother. They are both retired and earn enough money to satisfy their modest needs. However, aunt spent pretty big amount of money that my mother left at her house and asked her to keep it safe. When my mother found out, aunt took a loan from the bank and gave her back. The spending continued, she often asks for loans in the middle of the month and she asks different members of the family, always keeping it a secret. If she was younger, I would totally think she is doing drugs. We think that someone is extorting money from her. Bank cleric told my father that she took 20000 usd (in our currency) as a loan, which is a huge amount of money in our contry. She doesn't know that we know this type of information. When we confront her about her spending she points out that she is depressed (which she is, and she is taking AD) and that she is going to kill herself. Then, she complains about us to her mother (our grandmother) which is the sweetest person ever. Grandmother has big problems with high blood pressure and even the smallest verbal conflict in the family gets her blood pressure up. Everytime we confront the aunt about the money she then complains to the grandmother and she gets sick. We do not know what to do! I have seen that their refrigerator is empty, they are literally starving if we don't provide. We would like to know where the money goes so we can stop that. Hiring private detective is not an option, there is no such thing here. Any advice would mean a lot. Thanks in advance.
