I have posted this story elsewhere but decided it belonged here. I will say that my story telling capabilities are lacking. I am a reporter, a logical thinker, I submit the facts in the best way I can. This is an urban legend from the area I live in, Dubuque County IA on the north east side of Iowa directly on the boarder with illinois and wisconsin. If there appears to be interest in this story I will pursue other urban legends in the area and provide and as many pictures as I can. I apologize in advance for any spelling or Grammer mistakes.
The story is a pretty familiar one by now. Just about every county in the US has one like this. The story goes that during the 60's a man, who is never named, began kidnapping kids. Most say he was using them for some kind of ritual. You'll hear stories of people who practice dark magic, sacrificing children, drinking their blood, molesting them, any depraved disgusting act for the sake of stealing their vitality. I never in my darkest imaginings would have considered my home town as a place where these things could happen, but they did. Just down the road from this man's house is an old railway bridge with a gutter on one side to allow the creek to pass through. The road was not frequently used and as a result, was not maintained well. The gutter was about a foot wide and nearly a foot deep. The tunnel itself would appear to be an ordinary, run of the mill, concrete underpass on top of which train tracks run. The man, the story goes, would use this tunnel to preform rituals. It is said that he would collect the blood of his victims and use it to paint the binding circles and satanic pentagrams needed for the ritual. According to the story, someone wondering the woods stumbled upon several strange objects such as black candles and reddish black stained glass vials before finding one of the shallow Graves. The police were called in. The story received no media attention as the sheriff realized , quite correctly, that a small rural area such as this with deep religious roots would panic. According to the legend this murderer, having given himself to Satan, was given a vision by the dark lord and was shown a solution to his impending doom, it was time for him to come home to his lord. When officers arrived at the man's house they discovered no one to be home. They searched the whole house and found bloody knives and clothing along with severed body parts in the refrigerator , but no perp. Upon leaving two of the officers took the direction of the tunnel and upon arriving at the tunnel found the man, hanged by the neck at the far end of the tunnel. People say if you drive into the tunnel and turn off your car, and sit in the blackness for 10 min, when you try to start the car it will not start immediatly. When it does start, and the lights come on, you will see the tiny hand prints of hundreds of children covering all of your windows. The next few days, your dreams will be haunted by ghastly spectres of children with no eyes pleading for your help.
