Bad compressor on KitchenAid built in refrigerator appliancerepair

We bought a house two years ago with a built in KitchenAid refrigerator (Model: KSSC36QMS01 SER: QR3912219). Last week it stopped cooling and the temperature rose to 70 degrees in both the freezer/refrigerator. I had a service tech come out and said it is a bad compressor. The Fridge is 11 years old.

Here is my first question: When I called to get the cost to replace the compressor they quoted me around $3500 for labor and parts. That sounds crazy! I looked up the parts and it came to around $300. I know new the fridge is around 4-5K -- but it seems that they are trying to take advantage?

Second question: Should I get it fixed (if I find a better price - sub 1K) or should I just get a non-built in for ~$1500. Although I am not sure how it will fit in the spot in the kitchen.

Any thoughts appreciated.
