TIFU but letting my cat catch on fire tifu

Ok, so I have a 15 year old, intellectually challenged but beautiful cat. She's arthritic and doesn't jump well anymore. I also have two ferrets. Consequently, no one is allowed in the kitchen because I don't want to fish the ferrets from out behind the stove and/or refrigerator. I have a child gate up but there is still a pass through from the dining room into the kitchen which, if motivated enough, my cat can jump up to.

On the way to out the door this am, late as usual, and I rush past the kitchen where I'm boiling hot water for tea. On my gas stove. I look in and see my cat sitting on the counter. She's aware enough to know THAT's NOT ALLOWED. So I say to her (not yelling, I'm resigned at the point) "what are you doing up there? You know you don't belong up there" while I'm stepping over the childgate to get her down.

In the meantime she panics, knowing she's not allowed up there and this means TROUBLE. she turns around to get down, while in the meantime I go in to take her off the counter (again, she doesnt jump well and landing is hard). I planned on putting her outside the child gate.

I pick her up and at the same time smell something funky. I look down and there she is, in my arms, with her tail on fire. I've got nothing to smother the flames in except the clothes I am wearing. I'm already late for work. Forgetting all stop, drop, and roll protocol, I start blowing on her tail. The red gets redder. I'm trying not to catch myself on fire. I finally get her furry butt in the sink and dose her with water. She's pissed. I'm wet. The house smells like a crematorium. I'm late for work. And I don't know if there are 3rd degree burns on her tail.

I text my boss "running late. My cat just caught on fire". It's a testament to the weirdness of my life that my boss didn't think that was remarkable. Checked out the cat, seemed ok except for being pissed off she was wet.

TL:DR: yelled at intellectually challenged cat too many times for being where she shouldn't be. Said cat panicked when i saw her in the kitchen and she caught herself on fire. All fine in the end. Bad mommy for yelling.
