My wireless internet connection is awful. It always goes in and out. A year at this address, and I am ready to pull my hair out! Can anyone help diagnose the problem? techsupport

I moved into my home last year and we switched our AT&T wireless internet to our new home. We had many problems connecting to our internet through the wireless connection. AT&T customer service was so awful, we broke our contract and switched to Charter internet.

We have problems with Charter now, too. Here's the problem:

I sit down and start working on my Macbook Pro in my office, which is outside in the garage. I work about thirty minutes, before my internet stops working. I loose the connection. I turn off my wi-fi connection with the airport icon. I turn my airport back on. The little connection lines start waving up and down for a while. Eventually, I get my connection back, but only after I turn my airport off. Sometimes the wi-fi connection bars wave up and down forever, and then go away.

Sometimes, in the worst case, the connection goes away and I get an exclamation point over the icon. Sometimes it will work fine all day, until my employee gets to work. When she turns on her computer and starts working, I start loosing my connection.

This happens when I am in my office in the garage. It happens when I am in my kitchen, right next to the charter modem/airport (not sure if that's what is is called anymore?). It happens when I am in my bedroom, two rooms away from the kitchen. It happens in the day and at night. More recently, it's happening two-three times per hour. I have an eBay store, and every time this happens, I loose the work I'm doing listing on eBay's site.

I have called Charter and they say there is nothing wrong with my connection. They even sent out a specialist, and he did nothing.

Sometimes the internet will be fine for a week, then it will start this up again. I have asked people in my neighborhood if they have similar problems, and I get various answers. My father claims it's because I live in a low-income neighborhood in my city. His theory is that Charter doesn't care about my neighborhood, so we get a bad connection.

I have been told I could be living in a dead zone. Or maybe I have some interference. However, we have no baby monitors, no TVs, or microwaves in our home. The modem/airport is not located near a refrigerator or anything else that might be blocking the connection. I DO have an unused alarm system in the house, and the box it is connected to is always humming (no clue if that matters, but I thought I'd mention it).

I have also been told to hook up my computer to ethernet and see if the problem continues. However, we don't have computers that are ethernet compatible. Macbook Pros....

I was about to call a tech company in town to see if I could get some professional help, but then I remembered reddit. Can anyone help me diagnose this problem? Or lend me some insight? Thank you.

TL;DR: Wireless internet goes in and out, all day long.

Edit: TL;DR

Edit 2: I also have a ALMOND Wireless Router / Range Extender that we have set up. Whether it is on or off, we have this same problem.
