I have a Samsung RFG297AARS french door refrigerator. I heard water running in the kitchen last night. Found water coming from the ice dispenser on the front of the refrigerator. I removed the ice tray and it seemed that the water pump was stuck on. Interior lights were not functional when the door was opened either. Tried to turn off the icemaker, and the panel on the door displayed "PC ER" message accompanied by very loud beeps.
After shutting off the water and doing some minor cleanup (at least I was home and awake!), I removed power from the fridge for a few minutes and plugged it back in. All seems OK with water restored now, but the potential for flooding the house if I leave the water on is a bit of an issue.
Is the issue likely a fault with the main board? PC ER on the fridge seems to mean that the door panel can't communicate with the main board, and my working theory is that it called for water for the icemaker and stopped responding, so it kept calling for more water. Had an issue a couple of years ago where the fridge stopped cooling and the front panel showed that it thought it had an appropriate temperature. Power cycling the fridge fixed that issue.
Any thoughts? Is a board replacement the right first step?
