Birds have nested in my mail box. What now? AskReddit

So, I have an open-top mail box. Three times now, I have dumped nesting materials out - I was trying to keep the lid closed, but I'm not very good at that. ;)

Today, I come home and there's a whole nest and at least one egg inside. You'd think the birds would have figured out this isn't a safe place to nest after having their nest destroyed three other times, but I guess they're just not that smart.

So.. what now? I don't want a bird nest in my mail box, but I also don't want this tiny bird egg to die, alone and abandoned, like my little sister did when I tricked her into climbing into the refrigerator in the abandoned cabin behind our house all those years ago.

Thoughts?
