The Roomate copypasta

Most people think that having a guy like me (specifically, me) as a roommate is one of the pluses. I am a friendly, supportive, thoughtful roommate, an old-fashioned Nice guy. I am not petty or selfish. I am mature---not just because I am past the youthful and wild years, but kind of never went through them, as I've always been pretty sensible and sensitive, but never fussy. But if you want someone considerate and respectful, who doesn't have wild parties or get loud or drunk or high or crazy or have parties and lots of company, if you want someone who actually LIKES having a roommates and will lend an ear when you have a bad day and share food and give you your privacy when you need it, I am your guy. I was raised with The Golden Rule and have learned a lot from much roommate experience. I won't pester you to take out the garbage when you want to sleep or leave dirty dishes in the sink or slam doors or insist that you buy your own salt or can't use the purple tea cup.

In the interest of full disclosure, I do not have a purple tea cup. Well, I did, but I broke it.

I am a creative guy---I run an intergenerational theatre company raising money for charities and am a writer (magazine articles, interviews, songs, scripts, reviews of music and theatre shows and CDs). I attend lots of shows. I have a mammoth music and movie collection which I am glad to let my roommates explore and take them to shows I get free tickets to every week. So, guys who are also into music and musical theatre especially enjoy living here and some have been performers I am happy to help with their own projects, auditions, or college students who need a little help or a mentor or a dictionary or pencil. (I am also a former teacher, so I have enjoyed and am especially comfortable with students and younger roommates; in fact, I have found a few of them to be far more mature and responsible than those who lived here who were much older.) When I had a roommate closer to my age --43---he seemed old and set in his ways and dull to me. But there are exceptions to every rule.

I am more of a fun, free-spirited, spur-of-the-moment guy who'd rather impulsively go out in winter's first snowfall at 3 AM or decorate the apartment for Christmas suddenly because I impulsively bought some flashing lights on the street and won't let the fact that it is April stop me. I don't understand a roommate who will turn down free theatre tickets someone just gave me because it's Thursday and that's the night he always sorts out his sock drawer or goes grocery shopping and defrosts the refrigerator. When my roommate wants privacy, he gets it. When he wants to make popcorn and watch a movie with me or cry on my shoulder or talk about his annoying cousin Sheila, I try to be there. I might not want to go out to dinner if Sheila is coming over, but we all have our limits.
