So I've just moved to town about two months ago and my apartment is in a renovated building from the late 1800s. Im literally only home to sleep and that is if I am lucky.
The smell presented recently. Within the last week to ten days. I dont smell it in the hall way, just as soon as I open my apartment door. It is a sharp, acidic, rotting smell. Its awful. Overwhelming at first but I get used to it within a minute or two. But its getting stronger it seems.
Ive ruled out the trash can and the fridge by cleaning out the fridge and taking out my trash daily, just to see.
I have ruled out actual vomit, a dead animal or human body by moving all of my furniture around including the stove and refrigerator.
I dont want to call the landlord yet, A. Because she is a nasty old lady and B. Because I want to make sure its not something stupid that ive overlooked.
Things to consider that probably aren't relevant but what do I know:
I have a drop ceiling and no im not gonna poke around up there
Sometimes when I turn on the water it smells like sulfer but nothing like what I smell walking through the door.
There is one boiler in the building and I cant control my own heat. The heat was turned on in the building on the 16th, 8 days ago.
I am a fan of a very stinky (most refer to it as heinous) cheese. I thought it might be that but I finished the cheese three days ago and the smell persists.
Any ideas what it could be? Or should I suck it up and call my grumpy landlord?
Im losing sleep Thank you in advance
