Refrigerating Shoes? running

Here's a not-so-hypothetical: I went for a run today in the glorious rain that Texas so badly needs. However, as you can imagine, my shoes got decently wet. As I'm currently only in possession of one pair of running shoes, and I want to go running tomorrow, how would you recommend I dry them out quickly and effectively?

A few caveats: It's super humid due to aforementioned rain;

It's 2015, so I don't have any newspapers;

I prefer not to use the dryer lest I wake a sleeping toddler with the rumbling;

I was thinking maybe throwing them into the refrigerator, where it's a constant, dry (not humid) environment. The obvious potential downside is that I have wet, borderline-smelly (depends who you ask) shoes in the same location as food that we plan to eat, so it could be a little unsanitary...

Thoughts?
