Norman Runs a Late Night Errand lifeofnorman

Norman set his plate of four Oreo cookies down on the kitchen table. He retrieved a glass from the cupboard and the milk carton from his refrigerator, only to find it nearly empty. "This isn't enough milk," Norman thought to himself. Norman gave a subdued purr in agreement. Checking the time, Norman saw that it was nearly 9pm. He had been looking forward to a glass of milk and Oreos for hours, and though he barely ever left the house at this time of night, he was resolved to enjoy his dessert.

At the grocery store, Norman walked briskly down the aisle towards the refrigerated section in the rear. A woman pushing a baby in her cart shoved past him with a glare, and Norman remembered why he never went out this late. "It's quite an inappropriate hour for a child of that age," Norman remarked to himself. Doubling his pace, eyes set on the display that held the 1%, Norman marched towards the milk.

At the register, the cashier apologized that their card reader was down and they were only accepting cash. Norman handed the cashier the five dollar bill he had found in his coat pocket that morning. Smiling at this bit of serendipity, Norman noticed across the way his coworker Lisa entering the store. What on earth could she be shopping for at this time of night? He shrugged as he realized that the same could very well be asked of him.

Hoping not to be noticed by Lisa, Norman left the store with his head down. As he pulled into his driveway, he could see Norman waiting in the window sill. Norman resolved never to leave the house that late again, and to try to remember that next time he is short on milk, water would have to do.
