At my workplace we have a couple raised garden beds in the parking lot built from recycled pallets for employees to use if they want. This year I noticed a huge praying mantis on the cherry tomato that ended up guarding everything for the last couple of months. About 2 weeks ago I noticed an egg case on a branch and would love to save them until next spring to hatch when we replant. Is this possible? What would be the best way to go about this? Would it be alright to just clip off the section of the branch and keep it in the refrigerator? I know you can buy mantis eggs online and at nurseries but I think it would be really nice to have the next generation live in the same garden next year.
