What causes the clinginess of cling film used for food, and why does the clinginess go away in the freezer? askscience

I bought a couple of styrofoam trays of chicken thighs the other day and froze them for later. At refrigerator temperature the cling film they are wrapped in was "sticky" and the packages clung tight to one another and would not slip against each other. After they were frozen solid, however, the clinginess disappeared and they slide against each other smoothly. What is going on on a molecular level? Van Der Walls forces? Something in the outer electron shells of the chlorine atoms? Why is it temperature dependent?
