Something I wish I had known about Home Depot HomeImprovement

I just spent all day getting the runaround on some appliance purchases at Home Depot (I'm sure many people here can understand). I just found out something from an anonymous employee that clarifies things, and would have affected my decision on making the purchases in the first place, so I thought I would share it.

Without going into a long story, we got a call from Maytag telling us that they didn't have the dishwasher we had ordered from homedepot.com in stock, so our entire delivery (of several appliances from different manufacturers) would be delayed. After lots of calling around to everyone involved, we found out that some third-party shipping company that was being used refused to break the order up and deliver the rest of it on time, and neither Maytag nor Home Depot will interfere.

A Home Depot employee (anonymous, online) told me that when you order an appliance like that online, fulfillment is usually up to the maker of the appliance, and homedepot.com takes almost no responsibility for making sure it happens on time. To me, if I order it through Home Depot, they are responsible for the order, but evidently the online version of the company disagrees. I really wish I had known that ahead of time. I thought I would be getting the appliances from a Home Depot warehouse. I get the impression that this would have been less of a problem if I had done the order through the local Home Depot store, but they were quoting me even longer delivery times.

At this point I'm just going to have to cancel the order and take my money elsewhere, since we're moving a young family into the property and they can't go without a refrigerator for that long. Lowes is my only other real option in that area (small town). Has anyone here had similar problems with them?
