I was sitting in class with some friends. We all had blonde hair. We were discussing a project in which we were making dolls. The other girls didn’t know how to braid hair, so I offered my services to braid their project’s hair if they wanted. All of the dolls also had blonde hair. One of the girls wanted hers done. So while in class I began her project’s braiding.
The class bell rang and we went to lunch. At lunch we all sat together and I told her I had finished but that I had an idea where I wanted to join both sides of the last two sections of braids and she liked that idea. So I told her after lunch I’d complete it. She was fine with that. Once lunch was over, I was making my way back to the classroom, as I walked I would end up walking through the various departments. The way back was through an old Greek coliseum and the teachers utilized it much as they probably did back in ancient times. There was a border around the amphitheater where some students preferred to stand.
I walked through the math section, which was interesting. Then I found myself in the science section.
This department was in chaos, there was infighting between the professors. They had created weird rules too, like if you had to walk through you had to walk along that border at the edge. Half way through I thought to myself, I don’t have to walk on the edge! And I moved away from it. The professors began arguing again about tradition and ritual. I realized the students were learning nothing.
I made it back to my classroom where my professor had changed into a slim black dress with lace shoulderstraps. She saw me and went for the little refrigerator in the back of the room near where I was. She asked if I’d like water or tea. I held up my bottle of tea from lunch and said I’ve got tea, I’m good. She smiled and said ok. She walked back to her desk and I began to tell her of my experience with walking through the science department. Her advice was that when I took the class and test time came, to simply tell them “I remember you arguing about this, and that, but I don’t remember learning about anything on this test.”
I thought to myself that her advice wouldn’t fix the situation for those taking that class now.
Then I woke up.
