Replacing Saddle Valve HomeImprovement

Hi everyone

I have a saddle valve connecting my refrigerator ice/water dispenser to my kitchen's main water line.

Frustrated with the poor water flow, and worried that this thing is going to fail some day, I think I would like to replace it with something better. I'd like a sanity check to make sure I'm getting the right stuff to replace it and that my imagined procedure is correct!

Also since I'm not a plumber, I had the idea of using pex to redo this so I don't have to worry about soldering stuff. Here are the things I think I need to buy to finish this project:

For the waterline to the refrigerator: http://ift.tt/2lQOcCC

To replace the bit of lost copper pipe where the saddle valve currently is: http://ift.tt/2egqX1u

To replace the stop valve connecting to the sink above: http://ift.tt/1NJu8eX

To cut the copper pipe: http://ift.tt/2moStet

To debur the copper and pex pipe: http://ift.tt/2lQS2vx

As for the procedure:

  • I'll shut off water to to the house
  • Disconnect the line from the sink to the water line
  • Cut the copper pipe as close to the saddle valve as possible
  • Debur the copper pipe where I cut it
  • Connect the sharkbite icemaker connection kit to the water line
  • Cut 6-8" of the pex tubing and connect it to the other side of the icemaker connection kit
  • Connect the stop valve
  • Connect the sink to the stop valve
  • Cross my fingers
  • Turn the water back on
