Basically, kids were getting trapped in abandoned refrigerators and dying; this continued until legislation was passed forcing refrigerator manufacturers to keep the doors shut in such a way so that they can be opened from the inside.
My thoughts would be that consumers would've preferred the safer fridges and so state action was unnecessary - yet in this case, consumers didn't seem to care much, and the laws most likely saved some lives.
I think a libertarian with common sense could still support a law like this. Yet I guess many would find a law like this unlibertarian. What are your thoughts? Should fridge manufacturers have been made liable for the deaths?
