So I just signed a lease to rent a house yesterday, but a situation arised and I need help Reddit!
So we have been looking for a house for probably 2 months and found this house about a month ago and came to check it out. Had the first walk through, while the previous renters still lived here about 2 weeks ago.
The situation is that the lease said there was a refrigerator included, the ads and the original lease said it was included. We go to sign the lease yesterday and while we are going over it, after I had already paid the deposit of $975, she (leasing agent) realizes that the lease says its included and for the first time she says they (previous renters) actually took the refrigerator.
We have already signed the lease with it saying included, there is an awkward minute silence as she realizes they messed up. So I just stare at her with a poker face and say well it says it in the lease and all the ads advertised it. She says "well we might have to buy you one," I said from there "well if you waive the pet fee of $350 I'll just buy one." She then says I'll have to ask the owner it's not my money, but I know we can at least postpone the pet fee. She walks away and comes back with the first 4 out of the 9 page lease, none of the first 4 require signatures. And she goes to take all the paper work but I say can I look at it, and sure enough she reprinted the first 4 pages without it saying refrigerator included.
She said the owner hadn't gotten back to her this morning and now it's the weekend and I won't hear back till Monday.
1) Is that even legal?
2) Where do I go from here?
