Awhile back the ice maker on my Kenmore refrigerator stopped working and I could use some help diagnosing the issue.
Here's what I know:
-
I believe it stopped working after a period of heavy use
-
There are no strange sounds associated with it
-
I removed the ice bucket as well as the assembly, looked it over (there was ice in the 'ice-making-tray area' but none in the ice bucket - pictured below) placed it back into the fridge and plugged it in and heard it starting to work. That night I heard it release ice and in the morning there was a small amount of ice in the bucket
-
I've tried to remove it again and disconnect/connect it but it made no difference.
I know that it's not the water inlet being clogged because after the first attempt to fix it, it made ice again although a small amount and not for very long. I also know that it's not because the temperature is not low enough, the freezer and fridge are below the recommended temperature. Also the water dispenser works just fine and has a high pressure.
I'm not sure what could be causing the issue. I'm all for replacing the assembly (I've found it online, it's >$100, I just want to be sure that that is what's causing the issue before going out and making the purchase).
I should also note that last year the fridge started leaking water. The rubber outlet that lead water to the evaporation tray was clogged and once it was removed and the ice buildup at the back of the freezer was thawed it stopped leaking. I'm not sure whether this is related but I thought it was worth mentioning. I've attached below some pictures that might help illustrate the issue.
