Hey.
I'm going to be moving soon, and I'd like to cut down on my monthly living costs in general but I spend way too much money and time on what I eat lately. I currently spend about £250 a month and at that cost I don't eat very well, not as healthy as I would like. I would like to attempt to get that to £100 to £150 a month if possible, while getting more out of my diet than I currently do.
I've looked into a few things.
- Meal replacements
- Buying in bulk
I've found that many meal replacements come at a premium cost and most seem to target weight loss, when in reality I don't want to lose weight at all. I came across Huel, which in concept/theory, does exactly what I would need/expect to supplement a diet mixed with solid foods to get a healthier intake and better budget but... After looking at the costs, it would cost £88 for just 2 meals a day at 500 calories per meal for a month. So you would most definitely need to take in more than this alone and that eats into half of the budget already.
Buying in bulk is what I looked into first. It seems like the best solution but I am greatly limited by what I can store, so I am limited to what I can buy which causes an issue with the healthy part of the plan... I am also going to be moving to a place that is fairly remote, there are nearby locations to get things from that are an hour or two away by bike.
My situation
I will be moving to a place where I will not have access to a freezer, I can store things within small quantities in a refrigerator although the amount we may as well assume that this is not possible.
I will have storage space, a means to cook, but essentials.
I've looked into foods that store well and where I may buy them in bulk and trying to plan a diet around that but I am having a hard time with it and especially within the budget but the budget is something I can work up if needed. I considered buying huge sacks of rice, nuts, oats and a few other things that store well and would be used often, I am struggling with other sources of things such as protein which is where I figured to look into a meal replacement to accompany anything I can come up with.
I have 3 weeks to devise a plan to put into action.
Any advice, tips, links would be more than welcome!!
I'll be doing a little research of my own in the meantime but I didn't think that it would hurt to post somewhere on here, maybe some of you have some ideas, experience or have recently read of something that may help.
I've been reading over this reddit for a short while and it's pretty amazing what I've seen and the help that you all give out.
