Leaving cold raw chicken on the counter before cooking AskCulinary

Is it okay to leave raw chicken thighs at room temperature 20 minutes before cooking? They stick to the pan if I cook them straight out of the refrigerator. Also, should I keep the chicken uncovered so it warms down more quickly or should I keep it in its original packaging?
