Need some advice on RV Hot Water Heater. Thanks! GoRVing

Hello fellow travellers. Has anyone tried to upgrade the factory propane/electric hot water heater in their RV to a tankless?

We recently upgraded to a diesel (slightly used) and the former owner (from Vermont) must have let the hot water heater freeze in the winter. He then added a bypass line so we have great water pressure but....just no hot water. The existing is an Attwood 10 gallon gas and electric unit. We priced it out and we can get a refurbished one for $325. New they are $579.

However, we know a lot of the newer and big rigs are coming standard with tankless. The Attwood RV tankless runs about $700+. However we did online research and keep seeing this Rheem model being suggested: http://ift.tt/2elcaC4

We run on 50 amps. So we were concerned with this using up to 40 amps...is that correct? We have already taken out the factory refrigerator and replaced it with a standard house fridge. So we don't use propane there. Also our motorhome has the optional heat pumps that work until 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Only below that temperature does the propane kick on. We hate the cold and I doubt we will be in weather that cold for the foreseeable future.

So ideally we would love to get on as many electric appliances. My question is: has anyone upgraded to a tankless electric water heater in their RV and what has your experience been? Have you experienced any problems with your power running the hot water heater and 1 or 2 AC units and an electric refrigerator?

It is only my husband I travelling usually. So we only need hot water for showers and doing the dishes. I usually wash our clothes in the Splendide in cold/warm water, never on hot.

Thank you so very much in advance for your help/suggestions.
