Hello All!
I have started to embark on this adventure of putting my existing kegerator into a whiskey barrel and ran into an issue trying to cool the barrel.
We ended up taking a Reciprocating Saw to the fridge and cut through a Freon line that was around the door which we did not know about. What would be the best way about cooling the barrel? Our ideas:
- Finish ripping apart the fridge, fix the copper tubing and attempt to recharge the unit. Estimated price: $150, Estimated Time: 10 hours

The only cooling option that we have eliminated is Peltier coolers due to their inefficiency.
The plan for the rest of the project:

Insulate with spray foam layers giving it time to expand.

Line interior with sheet metal. The sheet metal may go in before the spray foam so the foam has a guide to expand against.

Seal interior with Plastidip.

Router/remove wood out top of barrel so top just fits on.

Clean metal rings.

Seal top of barrel with epoxy.

Reinforce top with plywood underneath.

Drill and mount top column on top of barrel.

Brew beer to put inside.
The price of this project doesn't matter too much; I would rather it be done once and done correctly.
TL;DR: 1. How do you cool a barrel with no HVAC experience but willing to learn?
