Need help planting conifers gardening

We got some free conifer seedings (not sure on species but probably native to Ontario where I live)- they are maybe a few inches short of a ruler from bottom of roots to the top of the plant (with the roots encased in a small amount of soil which is also in a small plastic sleeve). We were also quite busy for the next week or 2 and couldn't plant them. The advice given to us was to put them in the refrigerator, which we did. While feeling a little dry (I added a bit of water to each plastic sleeve earlier today) they still look pretty alive.

Then, I read online that the sudden warmth of moving it into the yard will most likely kill them all, so it was actually a bad move to refrigerate them. At the same time, it's going to be frosty overnight the next few days, going as potentially low as -1C with days being 5-7C tomorrow and about 10C on Monday

Based on this information, would it then be smart to plant them in the chill tomorrow (when its 5ish degrees), since I have what seems to be a pretty golden opportunity to have the seedlings warm up more naturally (weathers going back to 16 on tuesday, closer to 20 later in the week and this is pretty much last chance for frost)? Or is it a really bad idea to plant in chilly weather? Also, I read online that in general, it's important to protect the young plants from the hot sun- how can I accomplish this after it is planted, especially since they are being planted where there will be full sun?

Thanks for any help!
