I woke to the sound of front door being slammed closed this morning at 2:20am. Still half asleep, I went to my kitchen and discovered the window wide open, and the screen gone. All the items from my window sill were mysteriously placed outside on the deck. The discovery was especially terrifying to the girl who happened to be spending the night at my house.
I started assessing what belongings the greasy thief could have grabbed. My ASUS Ultrabook was on the counter directly next to the scene of the crime. My work room full of laptops, desktops, and shelves of computer parts for my small business were seemingly untouched. My watch, car keys, television, consoles and other items were not disturbed either.
I phoned the incident into the local town police, who arrived around 3:00am. The officer questioned me about what could be missing, "This may seem weird, but would you check if anything is missing from your refrigerator?". All the major items were also undisturbed. At a second glance I realized my 24 pack of Kraft Singles processed cheese slices were missing. The office than spoke into his radio, "Did you seize the cheese?". A forensic investigation followed, searching for footprints, fingerprints, while capturing pictures and statements.
Another call was made to police a few houses down, shortly after my incident, reported an intoxicated man walking down the street. When police caught up to him, they seized my individually wrapped cheese slices from him. I never expected something like this to happen in my small Canadian town.
I posted this story in /r/cheese 2 years ago (I was new to reddit at the time). Unfortunately when the burglar handled my dish soap container he covered his hands in soap which smudged all his fingerprints allowing him to escape justice.
TL;DR Someone broke into my house and stole nothing but the cheese slices from my refrigerator.
