[NY/NJ] Offering free beer at a tech meetup group legaladvice

I'm working with a company that wants to host meetup groups to get talent in the door. Meetups for programmers are a pretty good way to vet the candidates casually & have ongoing conversations/offers. It's common to offer free beer and pizza because programmers are programmers. Their fee is either a billion dollars an hour or free beer & pizza.

This is a private office which obviously does not have a liquor license. We will not charge people to be there and we also won't serve them ourselves. There will be a refrigerator with beer and people should feel free to help themselves. Where would this leave the company or the host in terms of legal liability? Is it ok to offer beer?
