Hey, Alaska, I could use some advice! alaska

Hello, Alaskans! I'm from the lower 48 and I'm looking for some advice from you guys. So I'm currently in college in Illinois, but a couple weeks back I sent in an application for the Anchorage PD. Since then, I've been looking at pictures and checking out this subreddit, and it's just amazing. I decided that, even if I don't get the job on the force, it would be amazing to move up there anyway. So I just had a couple questions that I hope you guys could help me with before I go running in blind and unprepared:

  • What kind of jobs are available? I've seen that there are many job openings, but I'd have to look into something more than minimum wage if the cost of living is really as high as I've heard. Do you know of any types of jobs with a decent pay that I could easily live off of if the police force doesnt pick me up? I'm 21, 6'5" and 250lbs, so intense physical labor is no problem for me

  • What are the gun laws? I'm really curious about this one. I've always been big on being able to own a firearm. Being from Chicago, I've always had a handgun on me at all times for self defense, and I was wondering if the gun laws are just as strict or more lenient in parts of Alaska

  • How do you get your food? I've seen a lot about how many people live mainly off the land because of the cost of groceries. Do you dedicate days to fishing and hunting to stock up your refrigerators on your own? Or are there people that sell fish and meat in the towns at a much cheaper price than the grocery stores?

  • What kind of fishing/hunting is available for residents? I've fished all my life, and since I turned 13 I've hunted deer, coyotes, wild hogs, black bear, elk, etc. and I was just curious what hunting or specialty hunting would be available if I became a resident, and how good the hunting is

  • How is the social scene? I know this is a rather broad question, but it could go for anyone in any part of Alaska. I know it's very spread out, and a lot of people say that depression is a big thing out there when you get the long days without sun, so I know I'd need to find somewhere to go for a some social interaction lol. I'm not the kind of person that needs attention 24/7, and I actually do like being alone for the most part, but I'd be moving up there by myself, and I know I could always buy a pet, but after a few months/years all alone it would start picking at me after a while

  • What are some of the advantages/disadvantages of the cities around Alaska? Another broad question, but this is for whoever wants to answer it. I'm open to going really anywhere, so if you have something good or bad to say about where you stay to an outsider, the advice would be appreciated.

I know these are pretty open and broad questions, so I don't expect precise answers, but I'm just looking for a little bit of information before I make up my mind. If you guys and gals could just help me out with these or give me any other advice that you want to share, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
