Kraft Mac & Cheese (to be called by it's true name Kraft Dinner from this point on) is one of my favorite foods to eat while on extended hiking trips. When I cook the KD I just use water, no butter or milk which obviously are not an option without a refrigerator. It turns out fine, albeit a little bland. Pepper was my go-to seasoning, but it's effectiveness is wearing off. I'm looking to spice it up a bit, to bring along something to add to the dish to make it more interesting, but I'm no expert on spice blends. The closest I've come is adding some taco seasoning to the KD, along with a packet of salsa. That was a nice change, but the salsa would be too heavy if I brought a lot - I'm looking for mostly dried/dehydrated options. I figured something peppery and garlicy would be nice. Maybe cajun-y. I dunno. Perhaps you could offer some better suggestions? What can I bring hiking (that is lightweight and doesn't require refrigeration) to add to my Kraft Dinner to maker it more better? Thank you!
