Kenmore Elite fridge (freezer creating ice blocks!) appliancerepair

We inherited an Kenmore Elite side by side when we bought our house. Absolutely love the thing until the fridge one day decided to be warm. Then it decided to stop making ice.

Turns out the freezer section had a 2" ice block plugging the drain and the return vent from the refrigerator, allowing no cool air to get to the fridge.

Once a month I have to empty out my freezer, defrost it and spray boiling water behind the panel into the drain hole and run a hair dryer up the return vent to clear out any ice buildup.

I have had a few people out and they all just tell me to modify a turkey baster and spray hot water on the drain hole frequently. WTF?!

The diffuser panel that allows air in and out also froze shut and the motor keeps cracking the plastic panel, so I have to do bi-weekly maintenance on that (super glue included if it breaks again).

I've replaced... Both thermistats, freezer thermistor sensor, freezer fan. I've tried tying 12 gauge bare copper to the heating coil and down into the drain hole but that doesn't work. I've fully defrosted the freezer for 3 days to ensure that it was completely dry. I've vaselined and resealed the plastic seals to ensure a solid seal. I've turned the temp up on the freezer to the lowest and also the highest to see if it made a difference. I've now completely removed the ice maker. I've also turned off the water supply to the fridge.

Freezer still "snowing" on everything and creating giant ice blocks. Its like the water is freezing before it gets a chance to drain out? Are the coils just not staying on long enough to defrost?

I'm out of ideas! I absolutely do not want to buy another refrigerator unless I have to. This thing still works but obviously is an inconvenience... not quite worth $$$$ yet and I feel like I am missing something to get it back in order.
