How can we go back to being frugally minded? Frugal

Hi /R/Frugal!

I've always been a frugal person since childhood, growing up with humble means, my partner grew up a bit more privileged than I did, and we've slowly bridged the gap between us. I leaned more towards his ways as we graduated college, got well-paying jobs, and cared less about finances.

Background: Both of us are college educated and bring home $56K and $73K independently. We both have student loan debt ($24K & $40K remaining), two car loans ($21K and $32K) and purchased a townhome this year ($191K remaining). When we purchased the townhome (new) we splurged a bit buying a new refrigerator, washer and dryer, and furnishings for our home, totaling roughly $15K after all was said and done. We've been in such a spending spell the last year that it's hard to break out of it.

We're not hurting financially, but seeing how much goes out the door each month is shocking, especially considering we're both 24 and very early in our careers.

What are some ways that we can go back to being more frugally minded?

Here are some that I've thought of, and it would be great to get input from others!

  • Sell the townhome to rent or buy a smaller and older house (Property taxes in TX & HOA fees are hefty)
  • Once cars are paid off get used cars as needed with cash
  • Eat at home more (This is hard!)
  • Shop more at second-hand shops and yard sales (my favorite weekend activity)
