Hey everyone! I'm new to VanDwelling- currently in the dreaming/planning stage. Recently bought back a 1996 Ford E150 cargo van with low miles (I believe ~130k?) with a really solid body (by Michigan standards, at least) and no significant mechanical concerns.
I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing, so I'm actively seeking and always welcome advice, suggestions, words of wisdom- any knowledge that will help get me on the road safe and prepared!
I did rough measuring (will be going through and re-measuring everything this weekend) but with the rough measurements I had, I sketched out a bird's eye view and a view both driver and passenger side-- just of the "living" area.
Now... my brain went fubar on me and I miscalculated the number of squares I had and the increment I was using (1 square equals 2 inches) so there will be 6 more inches of space available than what the sketches show. Just wanted to get a rough idea where I want things so I can figure out what needs to happen next.

I'm thinking of having a twin bed (it will be just me in the van) that runs lengthwise down the van. Roughly halfway down, I would have the frame hinge so that it could be lifted into "futon" mode, so I could look out the back and access storage underneath the head of the bed.
I took a lot of inspiration from DJ Wolinsky's setup here: https://youtu.be/0GRgoISeTR4
I would do the cupboards above the bed, drawers under the bed since I would have a good foot of room by my (somewhat shoddy) measure. That seems pretty feasible? Put the "kitchenette" behind the driver's seat. Originally had the refrigerator there, but thought if I was going to put the stove there, the gas would need to be there.

Just like the video, I'd have the closet space with upper cubby areas. I'd have the first closet be more "full length" to maybe hang a closet road in. I feel that extra floor space with having the twin bed would make these sized "closets" reasonable.
Plan on doing the exact same with the bike as in the video. This was a really estimated measurement so based on what it actually comes out to, might need to make some adjustments. Put the fridge like he had, but then put my electrical stuff above that in a sort of closed off compartment. (I plan on doing most wiring on the outside of my paneling, and just make it "tidy" as I can for better access should something go wrong. Suggestions?) Planning on putting USB charging ports on top of that.
Still unsure on best placement for the roof vent. I would imagine you would want the vent nearest your source of cooking, but that's not what I've been seeing in a lot of other builds? I'd like to at least buy a roof vent (open to suggestions) and have the floor holes filled (considering filling them with epoxy). After that I would think insulation could get done? At this point in time, I'm thinking polyisocyanurate would be best after seeing the chart in this article with all the comparative benefits:
Have plenty of other questions and ideas, but will tackle those as they come. In the meantime, would love any (constructive) input. Like I said this is super early stage planning, but figure I'd put it out there and get some much needed guidance!
Thanks everyone!
