After mistakenly ordering too much food for dinner, Norman was left with one-fourth of a small cheese pizza and nine chicken wings. Norman pondered what to do. He had a package of freezer deep-storage plastic bags, but he didn't have enough space in his freezer to put everything for long-term storage to bring out as a treat to himself. He decided to put some food in the freezer and some in the refrigerator.
Norman left the fourth of the pizza and three of the chicken wings in the refrigerator and put the rest in the freezer. Then he cleaned up, fed Norman, and went to bed.
The next day, Norman remembered his leftover food. When should he eat it? He usually ate his meals on a schedule, and delivery night wasn't for another two weeks. Norman then thought of Lisa, and thought she might appreciate sharing a special treat with him at work that day. He packed up the food from the fridge. After second thought, he packed up the food from the freezer as well, hoping that it would thaw enough by the middle of the day that he could microwave it the rest of the way.
When Norman got to work, he put his chicken wings and pizza in the fridge. But, lo and behold, he was not the only one to put chicken wings and pizza in the work refrigerator! Apparently there had been a small gathering at work the night before, and they also had leftovers in the fridge.
"What a coincidence," thought Norman. He put his food in the fridge and went to his desk. At lunch time, he went to retrieve it, but it was all gone. "Oh no!" remembered Norman, "I forgot to write my name on it!" He supposed that was what happened when you tempted fate by ordering both a small pizza and chicken wings.
As Norman walked back to his desk to get his coat, he noticed Lisa sitting with a group of friends in the break room, eating the leftovers. "At least she gets to enjoy them," Norman thought. Norman also wondered if one day he would go to a work gathering, but that thought was too fleeting to be put into words.
