I just moved into a new home that is about 300 sqft larger than my previous home (2300 sqft). Over 1 month we have apparently consumed ~5,000 kWh of energy, compared to our previous home which was typically closer to 800-900 kWh at the most for any single month in a year. Any ideas about what could be causing such a massive powersink?
The AC/heat doesn't run non stop - in fact over about half of the month it was even on because the weather was so mild. I just can't imaging crossing the national average ANUAL energy usage in the US in a two-month stretch. I am really at a loss here.
The house was built in 1999 so everything is fairly modern. The water heater and refrigerator are brand new. A "high efficiency" heating and cooling unit was installed in 2011 according to the records we were given (and that agrees with what the home inspector said)... pool pump only runs 3-5 hours per day... I don't know what else there could be. The electric provider assures me there is nothing wrong with the meter. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
edit: for clarity
