No picture, but everything turned all right in the end. It was cooked all the way, and tasted fine. Just some mishaps and lots of smoke and a little fire in the middle and a big mess at the end..
So I have an original recipe of broiling salmon covered in BBQ sauce, nothing too complicated. I just brush it with oil and BBQ sauce and try to sear it and cook it.
First problem defrosting the salmon:
Our microwave heats things a bit too high to defrost it with the defrost setting, I didn't have the time to defrost it by leaving it in cold water for an hour or leaving it in the refrigerator. It was a last minute decision to cook this for dinner tonight. So I ended up trying to defrost it best I could and I actually cut off the thinnest part of it to try and defrost the other half because the thin part was actually being cooked in the microwave. The thick part still didn't defrost all the way through before I put it in the oven to broil.
It took about 30 minutes of 10 minute intervals till it was actually cooked enough. The oil in the pan caused sparks to hail down while broiling it, BBQ sauce was seared onto the glass dish and caused the smoke alarm to go off. I was always worried that the smoke alarm wasn't working in the past.. Now I have proof it is working at least.
As for the broccoli I usually put it in a bowl cover it with plastic wrap, and cook it in the microwave for 1 minute. I actually burned the broccoli this time with sparks arcing between the stalks. How does this happen?
Rice turned out fine.
