I've kept our home warranty active since we bought our home in 2010. We've not filed any claim since the first year. Last week, our built in microwave died. Our policy states:
KITCHEN APPLIANCES: OVEN/RANGE (Gas or Electric); DISHWASHER; GARBAGE DISPOSAL; HOT WATER DISPENSER; BUILT-IN TRASH COMPACTOR; BUILT-IN MICROWAVE OVEN; BUILT-IN FOOD CENTER. Not Covered: Cosmetic problems, such as chipping, dents or scratches; trim kits; racks; rollers; baskets; lights; interior linings; clocks; rotisseries; handles; knobs; buckets; lock & key assemblies; shelves; removable accessories; timers (unless they affect the primary function of the appliance); meat probes; refrigerator/stove combination units; halogen units; electromagnetic induction units; glass.
As HW company did not have any technicians in our area, they authorized us to find someone licensed, which we did. They said:
Transformer and magnitron gone fuse blown estimate to repair $300 - 400 replaced fuse contacted warranty company went over repair cost and estimate to fix warranty company will call customer
So now we've contacted the warranty company and while they have agreed to reimburse us our out of pocket with the repair company, they are refusing to do anything more. I asked them why they weren't covering the unit, and they refused to discuss the matter. When asked to speak to a manager, they refused my request saying the decision had been made.
What recourse do we have?
